Mobile application usage is a clear indication of what's in store for companies that decide to shift towards a mobile-centric approach. Here's more:

In fact, they have created a separate business model of their own: something that is generating tens of millions of revenue for developers, investors and startups involved in the scene. Interestingly, the mobile ecosystem is still considered to be “infancy” and despite fears of the tech bubble prevalent in the industry, mobile app growth appears to be in the pink of its health, growing steadily and rapidly.

Mobile app usage patterns indicate that users prefer a mobile app when it's easier to interact with an app through mobile. This is a broad generalization and there's no limit as to what type of apps can be “mobilized.” With tablets entering the scene, the equations of creation and consumption have changed vastly.

It's crystal clear that mobile apps and a general shift towards mobile ecosystem is evidently the way forward. Companies that jump on this bandwagon have a lot to gain, provided innovation stands as the USP.
